Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2048, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Nov 2020
Schaefer termed this “a classic Auslese, rendered largely from tiny, golden-yellow fruits with a small share of botrytis.” Pure pear, quince and yellow cherry nectar are evoked on both the nose and the glossy palate, and suggestions of candied ginger and green herbal essences supply incisive and cooling counterpoint to the wine’s intense fruit concentration and soothing glycerol-richness. At the same time, there is a striking and by no means inharmonious juxtaposition of creaminess and subtle but animating brightness of fresh lime and grapefruit, these latter really coming to the fore on the vibrantly, intensely yet buoyantly sustained finish.
