As was the case from 2017, there is a single fuder of Euchariusberg Auslese, picked out from younger vines in the Gross Schock sector, near those that informed this year’s Spätlese A.P. #6. Sheer ripeness translates into a headily fruity nose and an enveloping sense of richness thanks to the combined effect of quince and pear preserve flavors with textural creaminess. Tingling brightness of lime and grapefruit emerge on the vibrantly sustained finish. While this doesn’t display the transparency or mineral nuances of the most impressive Weber 2018s, it deserves a chance, with time in bottle, to realize further potential.
