The 2017 Bourgogne Aligoté Charmes Aux Prêtres, a vineyard planted by Sylvain’s father in 1949, has a fresh, vibrant bouquet of white peach, Williams pear and light flinty aromas. The palate is well balanced and quite saline in the mouth, with a fine bead of acidity; touches of lemon peel lend real tension and a pleasant bitterness on the finish. It just calls out for some fruits de mer .

Aligoté. One part is on the lower slope and one part is planted to Pinot Noir for the rosé. Gently smoky but with rich citrus fruit and the richness is all taut and tied up for the moment, not rich or full in the mouth. Chalky and dry and much more salty and tense than the Auvones. So tense. So long. A little severe at the moment. (JH)
