The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a classy, much more reserved but very delineated bouquet that has one of the more mineral-driven aromatic profiles. The palate is very harmonious, a little oaky at first, fine depth and fine-boned. Well-judged acidity, but it will require 3-4 years in bottle to subsume that wood. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is conspicuously ripe and generous on the nose, not complex as a Les Clos firing on all cylinders can be, though still pretty, featuring pressed white flowers, apricot and touches of Chinese white tea. The palate is full and voluminous, as one would expect of Les Clos, though it does not possess the tension of the top vintages that I have tasted from Droin. The growing season hold sway over the terroir in this vintage, though I strongly suspect it will express more personality with another 18–24 months in bottle. At the moment, the Valmur is showing greater potential.

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is a dense, spherical wine built on power and texture. Lemon confit, apricot, marzipan, dried flowers, chamomile all build as this creamy, voluptuous Chablis shows off its vivid personality. Bright saline notes cut through all the richness, giving the wine energy and a sense of crystalline beauty that is not easy to express with words. Today, I find the 2018 just a bit closed. I won't be surprised if it is even better from bottle.
