The 2010 Barolo Pressenda offers a distinct read of Nebbiolo with a unique voice and personality. There is slightly more plumpness and richness here with round tones of black cherry and dried blackberry. That added softness goes a long way in terms of the extra length, power and texture on display here. Dark spice, tar and licorice follow in quick succession. Meanwhile, the wine maintains its elegance and grace.

Monforte d’Alba. Deep ruby with an orange rim. Soft, ripe nose of kitchen spice and dried fruit and hints of malt. Chewy ripe fruit that already is a little evolved. Quite hedonistic and pleasurable. (WS)

Commune of Monforte d’Alba. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Quite rich on the nose as well as on the palate. Crowd pleaser while conveying the Nebbiolo message. (WS)

Dark plums, cherries, smoke, spices and new leather flesh out in the 2010 Barolo Pressenda, which emerges from Castelletto, in Monforte. This is a fairly forward, fruit-driven Barolo, especially within the context of Castelletto, where the wines often have more tannic spine. That said, the 2010 is beautiful and offers significant medium-term appeal once it comes together a little more in bottle. Sweet rose petals and spices leave a positive last impression.
