Tasting notes
WhistlePig 15 Year Old Single Cask #123612 was selected under the expert guidance of Pete Lynch, WhistlePig’s Master Distiller, at the picturesque Vermont distillery. We secured this and more, after sampling over 30 different single casks. All the casks chosen have been bottled under the striking blue 15 Year Old label. This is one of the oldest ryes bottled from the award-winning farm-cum-distiller. Limited to just 132 bottles, Cask #123612 matured for 18 years in American White Oak before a one-and-a-half month finish in Vermont Oak. When nosing, there are the classic American oak vanilla notes and all the aromas which conjure up walking into a fine patisserie. Glazed cherries, mango, banana bread, brown sugar and warming cinnamon spice all invite you in. This is dangerously drinkable, with an oily mouthfeel which has you quickly reaching for more. Peppery rye spice seasons the sweet flavours and the finish is long.
WhistlePig 15 Year Old Single Cask #12701 is a fine example of why this farm-cum-distiller is the most awarded rye whiskey producer in the world. Hand-selected from over 30 different single casks at a tasting with Master Distiller Pete Lynch at the Vermont distillery, this aged rye has rich caramel, vanilla and butterscotch notes on the nose. After time spent in American and Vermont oak, there is a delightful nutty, rye spice on the palate which leads to a complex, oily mouthfeel. Only 132 bottles of this aged, single-cask rye exist.
