Tasting notes
The 2017 Volnay Clos de Verseuil 1er Cru has a touch of VA on the nose, along with touches of kirsch and orange zest. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and maybe just a tad over-extracted. Muscular for a Volnay, with a touch of chewiness toward the finish. A bit out of sorts, so I will not judge this for now. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

I very much enjoyed Thibaud Clerget’s 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Verseuil. It’s a lighter vintage for Clerget, so I was not surprised to see the wine showing so well. I especially admired the wine’s focus and delineation. Classic Volnay.
The 2018 Volnay Clos de Verseuil 1er Cru is a little deeper in color than anticipated. It offers ebullient, vivid red fruit (cranberry and wild strawberry) with hints of cassis tucked underneath. It gains cohesion with an hour's aeration, developing pliant tannins and such purity on the finish that it can only put a smile on your face. It does not wow in terms of complexity, yet it does exude what Volnay is all about.
