0.53 ha acquired in 2008. The domaine's northernmost vineyard. 100% whole bunch. Mid cherry red. Darker fruited than their other grands crus with the merest hint of dark spice and a fine stony/mineral finesse even in the aroma. Dark, sober, elegant, underlying and hidden power. The tannins are paper-fine but compact so there’s a slight chew for now that smooths on the finish to a velvet texture. Very dry finish but completely balanced for the longer term. Dry, dry finesse. The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 100% whole bunches, was 50% reduced by hail and thus cropped at 18hl/ha. It has a very attractive bouquet with more black fruit than red, hints of tobacco and vervain tea and an almost granitic aroma underneath. The palate is beautifully balanced and quite savory in style, suggesting touches of meat juices infusing the red berry fruit. This feels very natural but is certainly one of the most powerful crus from the domaine on the finish. Superb.

The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru suffered in the hail that struck the north of Morey-Saint-Denis and south of Gevrey-Chambertin this year, resulting in a mere half crop, but the wine is promising, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, plum, dried flowers and mossy soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and chewy, with a tense, tight-knit core that contrasts with most of Lachaux's other 2017s, and it will demand correspondingly longer in bottle to reach its peak.
