Tasting notes
Jurassic chalk with a layer of iron-rich loam is home to the single plot Pinot Noir 2013 Rhini, a dark and intensely colored wine with a nobly fine, deep and complex bouquet of dark ripe forest fruits (black currant, blackberries, raspberries), as well as some spicy flavors on the exciting nose. Aged for 22 months in 20% new and 80% used barriques, and bottled without fining and filtration, this is a full-bodied, intense and densely woven Pinot. It has generous and juicy fruit, mealy and grippy tannins, a firm mineral acidity, and a long and tension-filled finish. This wine shows the purity, tension and complex expression of a very good village or even Premier Cru, and remains one of my favorite wines in the extensive Ziereisen portfolio.
