The 2018 Kirchberg GG is pure, fine and elegant on the nose that displays a delicate slate and refined Riesling aroma. Fresh and piquant on the palate, this is a refreshing, pure and salty Kirchberg with grip and tension and zero botrytis. A frisky wine with serious grip, mineral tension and length. Excellent grip. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Pear, apple and lime are garlanded in sweetly fragrant honeysuckle as well as cooling fennel and Thai basil in an effusively aromatic and lushly rich palate display. There is considerable fullness here from around 13% alcohol, but only the faintest trace of warmth. Alkaline and stony accents seem to shimmer beneath a carpet of fruit in an at-once enveloping and refreshing finish.
Very peachy and concentrated on the nose with apple strudel and mango dessert. Mouth-filling and seemingly almost off-dry, but the ripe fruit is carried succinctly by mouthwatering acidity. Drink now.
On the nose ripe fruit from local orchards mixes with some more exotic aromas without going over the top. On the palate the fruit is ripe but not too sweet, although a rich texture and full body emphasise the generous character of the Kirchberg. Minerality and acidity may not be prominent, but are assertive enough to put a bit of tension into the finish. (MS)
