The 2017 Saint-Aubin En Montceau 1er Cru is quite flinty on the nose, which is well defined and more austere than its peers, light floral aromas emerging with time and becoming almost too pronounced after 10–15 minutes in the glass. The palate is well balanced with orange zest and light peachy notes, perhaps not quite as delineated as the aromatics, though there is pleasant weight on the finish. Given the much more impressive showing in barrel, I wonder if this has closed down. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Montceau is showing beautiful, unwinding in the glass with a bouquet of orange oil, lemon zest, pear and dried white flowers that's more youthfully reticent than the En Remilly, framed by a light touch of reduction. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, chiseled and tensile, with a beautifully chalky, mineral profile. This is well worth seeking out, and it will reward a bit of bottle age.

The 2017 Saint-Aubin en Montceau 1er Cru has another quite riveting bouquet with touches of yellow flower, dried quince and crushed stone that needs a little encouragement. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, so elegant and refined with a precise, mineral-driven bouquet that unfolds in the glass with aeration. You can feel the salinity 45 seconds after the wine has exited. Superb. (DIAM closure)
