Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Mar 2020

eVirtus is Hegarty’s second premium cuvee and yet in true Languedoc tradition remains fantastically priced for the quality on offer. In 2014 this is an absolutely beautiful wine with an almost Northern Rhone herbaceous freshness with beguiling aromas of sage, thyme, liquorice root, aniseed and a scorched earth smokiness. I love the freshness and contrast of herbs, spice and black cherry (Syrah-dominant) flavoured palate. Wonderful structure with plush tannins and fresh, balancing acidity that mean this is drinking nicely now but has the potential to age gracefully for the next 6-8+ years. Top recommendation from a property that shows off how good wines from the Minervois can be when a qualitative approach is taken. In the words of Hegarty, "a wine for drinking with smoke and fire" and this will make the perfect foil for BBQ grilled lamb.
