New Zealand's most expensive Chardonnay, it would be easy to dismiss the 2015 Endeavour Chardonnay as a gimmick if it weren't so damn good. Old-vine Mendoza Clone, fermented and aged 29 months in new French oak puncheons, has yielded a wine that's toasty and cedary but one that packs in plenty of concentrated pineapple and citrus fruit. It's a rich, intense blend of wood and fruit, backed by a wonderfully silky texture and great energy and length.

First 300 litres from the press, with a fair proportion of solids. Fermentation and 29 months in 100% new French oak, with b â tonnage. Natural MLF. TA 6.85 g/l, RS 0.5 g/l. Pale lemon. Marked vanilla-cream oak and hazelnut with passionfruit and almost curry-like tones. Dense, ripe, pure stone fruit on the palate, with bright acidity and very good length. Unashamedly ripe, oaked Chardonnay, that is very, very well done in its style. This is class. (TJ)
