Score 94+/100 · Drink 2021-2030, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2019

Bright ruby. Pungent crushed-stone minerality lifts the aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and spices. Silky, vinous and penetrating; wonderfully intense and alive, displaying terrific chalky energy but an utterly suave texture too. Really stunningly precise yet dense and filled in, avoiding any impression of weightiness, and a splendid example of Gualtallary chalky saline minerality. Stands out for its sappy lift and compelling subtle sweetness. Finishes with firm tongue- and tooth-dusting tannins and rising palate-staining black-fruit length. This is built for a long and graceful evolution in bottle. By the way, this wine finished with 2.4 grams per liter residual sugar, while the other 2015 Terroir Series Malbecs are all slightly over 3 grams. (aged in 25% new 300-liter Mercurey barrels)

Crazy aromas of ink and dark berries. Flowers, too. Full body, ultra-fine tannins with blackberry and graphite character. Linear and racy. Beautiful finish. Tight and reserved. Needs two or three more years to show it all. Try after 2022.
