The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a pretty morello cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet, beautifully defined with seamlessly integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and very well defined, the 75% stems lending an earthiness and plenty of freshness toward the elegant but quite persistent finish. Excellent.

80% whole bunch and a one-year-old barrel. Tank sample. Delicate dark-red fruit and a definite rocky/mineral character. Dark and savoury on the palate, dark fruit but it is that rocky finesse that leads to the finish. Dark and sober yet no lack of fruit on the mid palate. (JH)
