Mango, passion fruit, pink grapefruit and quince preserves reflect a combination of overripe fruit with a modest share of botrytis. Hints of lychee and celery seed lend a seductively Gewürztraminer-like aura, which is also reinforced by an oily-rich feel. The wine’s gaudy generosity of fruit is reinforced by prominent sweetness, cut by tangy citricity. The pure-fruited, luscious finish is prodigiously sustained, though I imagine that aging will eventually result in greater harmony and clarity, not to mention a welcome if modest diminution in the sheer sense of sweetness.

Tropical paradise in a fragrance! The palate oozes exotic fruit juices, runny honey and fresh raisins add sweet substance without sticky consequences, ripe acidity struggling but succeeding in containing the generous fruity offerings. A long finish lets you savour marvellous moments well beyond the last sip. (MS)
