The 2015 Barbera d'Alba Pozzo dell'Annunziata offers a good deal of immediacy to match its soft, silky personality. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, cloves and lavender are some of the notes that build in the glass. The 2015 is not especially concentrated nor marked by oak as some previous editions have been. I would cellar it for a few years and see what happens. Available only in magnum.

This is a spectacular magnum with plums, blackberries, blueberries and dark chocolate. A hint of toasted oak. Graphite undertones. Full-bodied, rich and layered with great density and intensity. Orange peel and spice. Old-vine magic. Greatness. Drink or hold.

Deep ruby-black. Mocha oak, clove and ripe black cherry. Sweet, jammy black-cherry palate fruit, with lots of vanilla-clove and dark chocolate oak. Brisk acidity gives lift, however, and it is not at all over-extracted, with supple, fairly firm tannins that befit the variety. Long, creamy vanilla finish, with only a touch of alcohol. Pretty decent, in its idiom. (TJ)
