Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2033, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2025

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate is redolent of black cherry, plum, grilled herbs, worn-in leather, chocolate, clove and copious sweet oak from 100% new barrels Paul Hobbs used at the time. Powerful and dark in the glass, the 2015 has plenty of textural intensity, but it is also peaking. I would not push my luck on aging. This was the fourth vintage Paul Hobbs made from his Coombsville estate. Recent vintages show more finesse and a lighter hand with oak.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate is endowed with serious power and depth. Succulent red cherry, spice, savory herb and floral overtones give the wine much of its personality. This striking, brilliant Coombsville Cabernet has a bright future. I would give it a few years for the formidable tannins to soften.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate sports a very deep purple-black color and is scented of bright red and black currants notes with an earthy undercurrent of underbrush, mossy bark and damp soil, plus suggestions of lavender and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, chewy backbone supporting the muscular fruit, with plenty of earth layers coming through on the long, savory finish. 468 cases were made.

Dark red cherry, pomegranate, mint and rose petal are some of the many nuances found in the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate Vineyard. In 2015, the typically firm tannins of this site are matched by the sheer intensity of the fruit. Remarkably vivid for such a big wine, the 2015 exudes class and personality. This is an especially ample Coombsville Cabernet with plenty of unctuous, inky, dark fruit to fill out its large-scaled frame.
