FINE+RARE, Aug 2019

The La Garenne is the most Puligny-esque of the three, with a much firmer nose of steely lime, green apple, freshly cut grass and spicy nutmeg. The palate is leaner than the Jacquelottes with a very focused tension, firm texture and a spicy, savoury flavour. The finish is long and elegant, with lovely minerality and elegant acidity. This is the longest and most taut of the trio.

(from a single parcel of 61-year-old vines on very shallow soil over rock): Bright lemon-yellow. Subtle minerality adds another dimension to the perfumed aromas of peach blossom and spices. Intensely flavored but light on its feet, offering lovely inner-mouth aromatic character to its flavors of white peach, spices and crushed rock. The wine's firm acidity gives it a youthfully closed quality today but this high-altitude wine finishes with excellent verve and length and offers considerable potential. Production here was about 45 hectoliters per hectare, according to Pernot.
