The 2013 Barolo Gattera takes a few moments to open and will undoubtedly benefit from more years of bottle aging. It needs to flesh out further and gain in volume. Already at this young stage, the wine reveals a tight and compact flavor profile with dark fruit, spice, tar and balsam herb. The mouthfeel is compact and firm, but it's already evolving to show a fuller and softer personality.

The 2013 Barolo Gattera is sensual, open-knit and quite expressive. Red cherry, plum, mint, chocolate, leather and deeply spiced notes shape this radiant, supple Barolo from the Gattera vineyard in La Morra. The 2013 naturally needs time to soften, but it's only a matter of time before the wine's inviting personality is on full display. Scents of rose petal, chocolate, sweet red cherry and a dash of French oak add sweetness through to the finish. Naturally, the 2013 needs time to soften, but it is quite expressive, even today.
La Morra. Tasted blind. Dark, medium-concentrated ruby with narrow orange rim. Beautiful nose of lifted cherry supported by sweet oak. Sweet fruit framed by bags of compact, powdery tannins, while the finish reveals a powerful structure and lifted succulent fruit. Mouth-filling without being heavy. (WS)
