Tasting notes
Such pure fruit here with plums, berries, fresh flowers and hints of varnished wood. Itâs full-bodied and very layered with sweet fruit coating the tannins, giving it a beautiful and rather lavish finish. Itâs delicious now and should be thoroughly enjoyed, but can improve with age.

The 2011 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere wraps around the palate with stunning, utterly sensual beauty. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive red stone fruits in a lifted, perfumed Barolo built on aromatics and silkiness. Exotic orange peel and tangerine notes add brightness on the finish.
The 2010 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati Case Nere is wonderfully lifted and gracious in the glass. Now that the Case Nere is being bottled on its own, it is easier to get a sense of this site's intrinsic characteristics. Sweet red cherries, flowers and delicate spices inform a precise, nuanced Barolo of exceptional beauty and potential. When I tasted the Case Nere in July it was quite feminine. A month later, it was darker and more powerful. My sense is that the 2011 still has a lot left to say. That shouldn't be an issue, as the wine will only be released in 2020.
