The 2014 Sankt Paul Spätburgunder GG opens with an attractively pure, fresh, aromatic and fleshy Pinot Noir bouquet whose defrosted berry aroma indicates the cold maceration perhaps too loudly. Full-bodied and powerful, this is a remarkably finessed and fresh Pinot Noir with great purity and mineral tension on the palate that will develop very well over the next decade. Tasted at the "VDP Grosses Gewächs" presentation in Wiesbaden in August 2017.

Sweet, almost soft, cocoa nose. A bit simple, and again some bitterness on the end. Not very complex. Messy, unappetising finish. (JR)
