Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc has a composed bouquet, more red than black fruit with subtle undergrowth notes, quite precise with good definition and vivacity. The palate is bright and fresh with a keen line of acidity, a gentle grip, a spicy vein towards the peppery finish, completing what is an accomplished wine, even if it does miss some persistence. It needs another 2-3 years to fully meld together and it should turn into a very fine wine. Bravo! Tasted September 2016.

Deep crimson. Rich and rather opulent. Pretty firm, even a little austere at the moment although there’s a lot underneath. Wait. (JR)
