Tasting notes
(from a tiny 0. 19-hectare parcel of 28-year-old vines on calcaire -rich soil):Healthy bright red. Inviting high-pitched aromas of rose petal, crushed stone and iodiney minerality. At once densely packed and juicy, showing lovely precision and balance to the fresh red fruit and saline mineral flavors. Not a fleshy wine but still a bit youthfully imploded. Finishes with ripe, smooth tannins and very good length. Two of the three barrels of this juice were new, as the Burguets wanted to fight this wine's natural tendency toward reduction.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champeaux, from a young parcel planted in 1987, was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose. The palate offers tart cherry fruit on the entry, the tannins angular and a bit rough around the edges at the moment, though I appreciate the bitter edge that lends tension on the finish.
