Tasting notes
The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio impresses with its overall balance. A silky, open-knit Il Poggio, the 2012 shows a bit less power and overall intensity than many other years. Instead, it is a total sense of harmony that carries the day. Black cherry, tobacco, incense, leather and dried herbs all meld together, framed by soft contours and gentle but bright acids that extend the finish. The 2012 is one of the best recent vintages for current drinking.

The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio shows evolved and aged characteristics. This wine is darkly concentrated and rich, with soft fruit flavors and lots of dark, fruity richness. You also get barbecue spice and campfire ash with licorice and grilled herb. Riserva Il Poggio's consistency is generous, thick and very characteristic of this warm vintage.
