Medium gold-tinged yellow. Deep but reticent aromas of ripe yellow stone fruits and pineapple, with hints of flint and earth. Fat and sweet for a Clos; less typical than the Bougros and not showing the usual early minerality of this great grand cru. In a very ripe style but quite dry, even a bit phenolic, on the back end. Still, this conveys more energy than the Bougros.

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has a more outgoing nose compared to the Bougros '13, with scents of citrus lemon, a touch of wet wool and cold steel. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, a little austere for a Les Clos with a pleasant twist of bitter lemon toward the finish that shows a little more persistence than the Bougros.

Oak is noticeable on the nose, even a note of vanilla cream, and there are inviting notes of citrus and green apple. Then pure, tight on the palate even though the edges are already soft, making it unexpectedly approachable already, hence the unusually early drink dates. (JH)

Brocard's 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is all about texture. Soft, seamless and totally inviting, but with good underlying acidity and minerality, the Clos is a rare wine from this site that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Yellow orchard fruit, flowers, mint and sweet spices inform the supple, resonant finish.
