Tasting notes
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru repeats its impressive performance from last year. Complex aromas on the nose of red berry fruit, forest floors, roasted chestnut and smoke emanate from the glass, maybe this bottle is a little more gamey than the last. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins that frame the spicy dark berry fruit laced with black pepper and tangy marmalade. Excellent - and it’s just starting to show what it can do. - Neal Martin

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a wonderful raspberry and wild strawberry scented bouquet with damp earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp red berry fruit, fine mineralité , lightly spiced with a very composed finish. Wonderful energy here and great length, this represents one of the best offerings from the Domaine. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is performing well, bursting from the glass with a wide-open bouquet of rose petals, grilled meat and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and ample, with a fleshy but vibrant core, rich structuring tannins and good concentration, concluding with a mouthwatering finish. It's a worthy successor to the excellent 2015.
