Score 90/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru is a blend of three parcels. It has a crisp, tart bouquet with wild mint aromas infusing the red fruit profile, though it is a little more taciturn than Gambal-s other 2012s at present. The palate is medium-bodied, linear at first, but soon fanning out with a surprisingly opulent finish. There is certainly admirable fruit concentration here with very good persistency, but give this 12 to 18 months in bottle please. Drink 2015-2020. It was great to see Alex Gambal again in Burgundy. This was another producer that I regularly review that slipped through the net last November. These five notes make a start and I include them in this article since they orbit Savigny. But I will endeavor to taste the remaining 2012s, especially because their reds were so impressive and as is often the case with Alex-s wines, great value. There are several importers in the United States.
