Score 88/100 · Drink 1998-2004, Robert Parker, Feb 1998

The 1993 Shiraz St. Henri offers a smoky, hickory, spicy-scented nose with hints of pepper and black fruits. More opulent and layered, with better flesh and fat than the Magill Estate, this chewy, concentrated, lusty Shiraz should drink well for 5-6 years. This winery continues to turn out an insipid selection of white wines, but the reds are all noteworthy, and some are reasonably good values. Deep red-ruby. Deep currant and crushed berry aromas, with wild notes of mocha and game plus floral, plummy elements that reminded me of Rioja. Sweet and quite oaky in the mouth, with a hint of strawberry and an herbal nuance. Again, rather Rioja-like. Finishes with slightly dry but even tannins. Attractive wine.
