Good dark red. Aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and licorice convey an almost roasted ripeness. Dense and ripe but juicy too, showing surprising energy for such a high-toned, chocolatey wine. The long finish features suave tannins, savory earth tones and very good lift.

Bright crimson. Intriguing vegy nose. Charming, round, juicy fruit on the palate. Fresh too. Great balance. Lightly bitter end. (JR)

Dark ruby. Very sweet start. Opulent and rich. Flattering and dramatic with its sweetness, even if not the purest. Lots of delivery. (JR)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is a second new offering from Maxime Chuerlin, winemaker at Domaine Georges Noellat, which comes from purchased grapes and labelled under his own name. It sees around 50% new oak. It has a lifted nose of dark berries, cranberry, undergrowth and an almost peat-like scent. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of crunchy red berry fruit that appear to soak up the new oak with ease, allowing the terroir to show through on the effervescent finish. This is worth seeking out - just three and a half barrels produced, however.
