The 2018 Marojallia is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. It was aged in one-third new French oak barrels, one-third in second year barrels and the rest in vats. It has 14.5% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts from the glass with fragrant scents of Black Forest cake, warm cassis and redcurrant jelly with hints of cinnamon stick, rose petals, cedar chest and chocolate box. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with expressive black and red berry flavors, supported by finely grained tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick. This vineyard is situated between Le Tertre and Monbrison in the parish of Arsac on deep, gravelly soils. It is planted at a high density of 6,500-10,000 vines per hectare. The average age of the vines for this section was 60 years old in 2018.

The 2018 Marojallia has closed up on the nose since I tasted it from barrel, offering dark berry fruit and traces of Earl Grey and sous-bois ; a touch of potpourri emerges with time. I appreciate its delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very pure, and the oak here is beautifully integrated. There is just a smear of dark chocolate on the finish that will be assimilated with time. An excellent Margaux that will be difficult to resist in its youth.

Smoky, espresso, licorice, spice, blackberry and barbecue scented aromas meld perfectly with the full-bodied, round-textured, polished, lush, flashy, sweet, dark red berry filled mid-palate and finish. This modern styled Margaux blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. 92 Points

An estate that readers should unquestionably have on their radar, the 2018 Château Marojallia checks in as 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot that was brought up in one-third new French oak. A deep purple/ruby color is followed by impressive, powerful cassis and kirsch-like fruits as well as spicy oak, violets, spice, and new leather aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, this beautifully balanced, elegant Margaux has ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a complex, classic style. It will drink nicely for at least two decades.
