The 2016 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets was completely destemmed. It has quite an opulent bouquet for a Pommard, with ripe dark cherry and blackberry fruit, perhaps more Volnay in style than Pommard (maybe some stem addition would have helped?). The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, plenty of small black cherries laced with white pepper and a touch of graphite on the finish. It will require three of four years to settle down. Mark told me that he does not want to hear from customers who open this before 2020.

He's made this from 2014 onwards. Above right of the village facing south. Just one 350-litre barrel in 2016 (previously six barrels). Proof that post-frost low yields have had a real effect! Deep ruby colour. Big and gamey. Massive and sweet and no sign of Pommard tannins. Not that dry on the end. Very long. Perfumed.
