Score 82/100 · Drink 2017-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 2014 Laplagnote-Bellevue has a rustic, rather brutal bouquet that lacks fruit intensity and seemed quite volatile. The palate is hard on the entry and just seems over-extracted in the winery, so that the tannins dry out the finish. This just seems to have gone awry during the élevage, sadly.

The 2014 Laplagnotte-Bellevue shows quite a bit better from bottle than it did from barrel. A wine of immense charm, this soft, open-knit Saint-Émilion is a perfect choice for drinking now and over the next few years. The 2014 is not complex, but it is pretty and easy to drink. Crushed rose petal and sweet cherries add the final shades of nuance.

The Laplagnotte-Bellevue comes across as a bit simple and fruity, although it does offer solid balance and plenty of near-term appeal. Black cherry, crème de cassis and sweet spices wrap around the supple, forward finish.
