Commune of Monforte d’Alba. Palish ruby with watery orange-tinged rim. A little stalky and underwhelming. Tough tannins and suppressed but soft sweet fruit aromas on the finish. (WS)

Poderi Colla's 2009 Barolo Bussia Dardi/Le Rose wafts from the glass with sweet tobacco, flowers, herbs, mint and fennel. Deceptively medium in body, the 2009 packs a serious punch. My impression is that the 2009 is going to be a near and medium-term drinker. Today it is expressive and beautifully balanced from start to finish. Overall, this is a solid effort from Poderi Colla.
