Tasting notes
From a four-hectare plot just underneath the castle of Novello as the name suggests. This has a sweet, powerful dark cherry nose with a little more focus than the Classico. There is some punch to this, a little more intensity and a savoury/sweetness on the nose. And in the mouth, it gets more serious, more grown-up. A savoury edge again. This is very 'Barolo' in character and has an excellent savoury and dry finish. Proper wine, that persists on the palate. Very good again.

The 2011 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello has a savory and meaty approach. It shows a dark garnet hue and opens with smoky ash, spice and barbecue sauce. There are thicker lines in the mouth too, with sweet tannins.
Novello. Light garnet. Rich, ripe nose. Very full and emphatic with fine tannins. A bit of heat on the end but good vitality on the palate. (JR)
Intense ruby. Hint of treacle at the start but real freshness on the palate. Racy and very appetizing. Great line and confidence. No rough edges and no obvious heat. VGV (JR)
