Tasting notes
The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru presents a profound nose of brilliant delineation and focus, delivering pure brambly red fruit and simmering underlying mineralité ; wilted rose petal scents surface after 10 minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, very harmonious and silky-smooth. This is not the most powerful or persistent Musigny you will ever taste, but it is undeniably pretty. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru comes from the domaine’s 0.21 hectares of vine. Similar to the Bonnes-Mares in style, it takes time to open on the nose and is a little reluctant to perform from barrel, coming across broody and almost saturnine. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and quite saline in the mouth, and the finish exhibits a light seaweed, almost briny note. Not bad, although it needs a tad more complexity and nuance considering the reputation of where it comes from.
