The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru, which is entirely de-stemmed, has a taut, strict bouquet of black rather than red fruit along with crushed rock, almost flinty in style. The palate is sappy on the entry with slightly chalky tannin. There is plenty of tightly wound, marine-infused, briny black fruit here, although like the La Justice, I am seeking more charm to come through on the finish. Not bad, but I have preferred other vintages in the past.

Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
