Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Aug 2021

The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a simple, slightly monotone, tropical-scented nose featuring chunks of pineapple and peach. Likewise, the palate is a bit "tutti frutti," offering orange and peach but little apropos of terroir expression or mineralité . This seems to oxidize in the glass. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from two parcels, the vines planted around the 1950s. The bouquet is well defined with white peach, clementine and light crushed stone aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced, with a silver thread of acidity, and quite mineral-driven toward the second half. A dash of lemongrass lends spiciness that lingers on the aftertaste. Delicious!
