He has made this since 2011 and he buys it as juice. One barrel – and if one barrel, then never new. Starts in one-year-old barrel and then goes to a two-year-old after racking. A rich and creamy nose and a touch of savoury/mealy spice. On the palate, succulent and rich at the same time. Great freshness and quite light on its feet. But there’s power at the end. Big but fresh, deep and long. (JH)

(Colin has purchased this fruit from the Chassagne side of the appellation since 2011): The ripest nose to this point, showing yellow stone fruits and spices but less citrus character. Quite silky, rich and broad but dry and backward, hinting at crushed rock and flowers. Conveys an impression of delicacy for Chassagne-side Bâtard. Finishes with good mounting length but today the wine doesn't quite come alive.
