Tasting notes
Up with the top wines in the vintage and made in a classic, elegant, complex style, the 2016 Côte Rôtie La Sereine Noir reveals a medium ruby/purple color as well as quintessential Côte Rôtie notes of black raspberries, white pepper, bacon fat, spring flowers, and hints of oak. With medium to full-bodied richness, flawless balance and purity, polished tannins, and a great finish, it’s a heavenly wine that has a touch of old-school, Jamet-like singularity and complexity paired with gorgeous fruit and texture. It needs a solid hour in a decanter if drinking any time soon and will be at its best with another 3-4 years of bottle age, and keep for 15 years or more.

Inky ruby. A highly complex bouquet evokes ripe black and blue fruits, candied licorice, olive paste and potpourri, and mineral and game notes appear with aeration. Stains the palate with intense, spice- and mineral-tinged blueberry, bitter cherry, dark chocolate and violet pastille flavors. Velvety, slow-building tannins lend shape to an extremely long, subtly chewy finish that shows outstanding power and mineral drive.
