Although this is only Daniel Twardowski’s fourth vintage, he has already caught the eye of the wine guides with the Pinot Noix, the only wine he produces. He uses Burgundy clones and adheres to Burgundian vinification principles, and it has to be admitted that despite the youthful age of his vines, the Pinot Noix 2015 exhibits plenty of cherry fruit, coupled with smoky and roasted notes which reflect the diligent use of French barriques. Who am I to say that his opening price of €70 per bottle strikes me as a wee bit ambitious? His previous vintages are all sold out, so he must be right. (MS)

Score 90/100 · Drink 2017-2026, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Jun 2017

Twardowski reported having gotten the fruit in before the worst fall rains, and at close to 13 percent natural alcohol this displays ample body while being more transparent to floral (here, iris-like) and stony mineral nuances and less marked by wood than the corresponding 2013. High-toned red berries are tinged with aromatically pungent but ultimately cooling green herbs. Silken in texture, this fine exhibit of Pinot virtues finishes with admirable persistence and a saliva-liberating hint of salinity.
