Tasting notes
The superb 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village unfurls in the glass with a lovely bouquet of raspberries, cherries, dark chocolate, grilled game and spicy new wood. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tight-knit core, fine-grained but firm structuring tannins and juicy balancing acids. This has closed down since the days of its comparatively expressive showing from barrel, and it's now clear that this is a vintage that will demand some time.

Cask sample. Mid cherry. Peppery red fruit on the nose. Firm and quite a grip on the palate, but not in the least astringent. Dry and firm and quite closed at the moment. Not much charm – yet – but has density. (JH)
Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Penetrating aromas of black fruits, flowers and spices. At once dense and juicy, showing more minerality and reserve than the Bourgogne Rouge, not to mention superior energy and ripeness. In a more reticent, saline style, this wine finishes with serious dusty tannins.
