The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is well defined on the nose, fresh and taut, with an abiding sense of purity and delineation. Joyous aromatics! The palate is crisp on the entry and well balanced, although this is the one Folatières where I find the oak impedes and rather occludes the terroir, rendering it unnecessarily generic compared to its peers, though the creaminess is seductive. The success of this wine depends on how well it can eat up that oak, and given its melioration in glass, my score reflects my optimism. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a fresh bouquet, quite vigorous compared to its peers, with yellow flower scents complementing the clear honey and subtle linseed aromas that gradually unfurl. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and full of tension, displaying good depth and concentration toward the finish. This is quite a powerful Puligny, perhaps missing a little bit of nerve compared to its peers, yet satisfying and persistent in the mouth. (DIAM GC closure)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is a worthy successor to the superb 2016 rendition, unfurling in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of lemon oil, vanilla pod, dried white flowers and gingerbread. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an elegantly glossy attack, wonderful concentration and a bright line of animating acidity, concluding with a long and pure finish. This is one of Jadot's finest white premiers crus this year.
