Tasting notes
The 2016 Mercurey Vieilles Vignes has a detailed bouquet with red berry fruit tinged with black pepper and iris, developing good vigour with time. The palate is smooth in texture with raspberry and pomegranate notes, quite dense and stocky on the finish that needs to muster more refinement.

The 2016 Mercurey Vieilles Vignes is superb, wafting from the glass with aromas of ripe cherries, smoky black currants, grilled squab and rich forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, gourmand and succulent, its tannins beautifully enveloped in layers of juicy fruit. If I had to pick a favorite Mercurey Villages, this bottling would be it; and the good news is that there are fully 9,000 bottles this year.
Soy and aniseed on the nose, with light tannic chew and crunchy cranberry fruit. Pure and open-knit with very tender tannic feel on the palate. A great demonstration of the purity of the vintage. (RH)
