There's only a half-barrel of the 2016 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, but it's shaping up to be a superb wine, revealing aromas of honey, white flowers, toasted nuts and petrol. On the palate, it's as full-bodied, chewy and concentrated as ever, with huge depth and extract and a long, saline finish. It's being matured in a used feuillette, so it hasn't been overwhelmed with new oak.

On the Puligny side. His strategy is to pick early because he tries to avoid heaviness. One feuillette ! Made from an old 300-litre cask re-coopered by Chassin. Will fill 130 bottles. B arrel sample. Really quite sweet on the nose and then almost painful acidity at this stage but wonderfully pure and lively. Great density and weight but the acidity distracts from this. Amazingly long. (JR)

(from the Puligny side of the cru; Colin has just 110 liters of this juice, aging in a new François Frères feuillette ): Pale bright yellow. Sexy aromas of nectarine, orange oil and menthol. Glyceral, thick and sweet; the most phenolic and powerful of these 2016s and just this side of too much, in part owing to the strong oak element. (Colin didn't have a used feuillette in his cellar because if he produces just a barrel and a half of juice, he typically uses a single 350-liter cask.) This hugely concentrated, voluptuous wine finishes with a pronounced sweetness.
