Tasting notes
I also tasted the 2014 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard, which might take some months to come into the market. It has some balsamic aromas, medicinal hints, traces of orange peel, saffron and a touch of sweet spices. It's built around very fine tannins and a notable core of acidity that acts as backbone, giving it length and lifting up the finish. This is quite in line with the 2010 vintage, with power and freshness in a rare combination of clout and elegance only the very best wines manage to show. There are some 3,000 bottles of this wine. It was bottled in March 2017.

(13.9% alcohol, with a pH of 3.5 and 7.2 grams per liter of acidity): Saturated bright, dark ruby. Knockout perfume of dark berries, black cherry and licorice lifted by a pungent chalkiness. Compellingly juicy and sharply delineated, with outstanding saline mineral lift giving this wine an almost magically light touch. Finishes with firm but suave tannins, serious energy and palate-staining floral length. This remarkably refined, weightless wine, made from 30-year-old vines and the saltiest of this set of single-vineyard Cabernet Francs, should evolve slowly and gracefully, and I would not be surprised if it ultimately merited an even higher score.
About the producer

El Enemigo has quickly become one of Argentina’s top wine estates, specialising in high-altitude, single-vineyard Cabernet Franc cuvées and Bordeaux blends. They also produce a range of single-vineyard cuvées from the lesser-known variety Bonarda.
