Tasting notes
(sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed bush vines and fermented in concrete tanks, followed by 14 months in French oak foudres and 225 liter barrels) Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Highly expressive, mineral-accented red/blue fruit liqueur, potpourri and vanilla scents show excellent clarity and pick up a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Sweet, seamless and penetrating on the palate, offering sappy boysenberry, black raspberry, cola and lavender pastille flavors that show very good depth and are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes long, sappy and precise, with subtle tannins framing lingering blue fruit and floral notes.

The 2012 Lanzaga shows the character of the year, but comes through as fresher and better balanced than the already impressive 2011. This blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano is sourced from their 14 hectares of organically farmed, head-pruned vineyards in the village of Lanciego. It fermented in 6,000-kilo cement vats with indigenous yeasts, and matured in a combination of 1,500- and 2,500-liter foudres and 225-liter barriques for some 14 months. The nose is elegant, subtle and balanced, with ripe fruit without excess and nicely integrated oak. The palate shows nice concentration and power keeping the poise and elegance, with good balance, fine tannins and moderate acidity. Nice combination of elegance and power. 31,390 bottles produced.
About the producer

In 1994, Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza made their first wine together. This was the beginning of Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, their joint project that looks to uncover the “real” Spain, working with old vineyards and indigenous varieties to recover the nation’s vinous heritage.
