Tasting notes
The 2015 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy from Domaine Charton is excellent, offering up a lovely bouquet of sweet red cherries, raw cocoa, candied peal and rose petal. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and gourmand, with a deep, layered mid-palate framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins and juicy acids. It's already hard to resist, but it should prove unusually long lived.

The 2015 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy has a clean and pure raspberry and blueberry scented bouquet, perhaps the most expressive of the four 2015s I tasted from the domaine. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy cranberry and raspberry fruit, a dash of cracked black pepper enlivening the tip of the tongue with impressive weight on the finish. This is excellent.
