Tasting notes
Medium red. Raspberry and coffee on the very ripe nose. Wonderfully rich and thick but fresh, with a distinct oak influence (Fourrier uses about 20% new oak across the board to age his wines). Raspberry, mocha and smoke notes carry through on the rich finish, which shows slightly drying tannins. A substantial village offering.

The 2009 Morey St. Denis Clos Solon is classy and elegant. Bright red fruits melt into flowers as this inviting, graceful wine opens up in the glass. Though understated, there is plenty of underlying material here. The finish is long and substantial. This is a terrific entry-level Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2024. Count me among the Burgundy fans who are thrilled Jean-Marie Fourrier chose not to pursue the career as a commercial airline pilot for which he studied. Fourrier began picking on September 17. The fruit was destemmed. Cuvaison lasted around 14 days but Fourrier commented that he had an unusually high (50%) amount of shot berries, which had the effect of extending the fermentations for another week or so. The malos started and ended early, hence Fourrier decided to bottle early as well. Per his usual practice, Fourrier left the wines on the lees with no racking until the wines were prepared for bottling. On average the wines saw 20% new oak. I tasted all of the 2009s from bottle. Good medium red. Spicy redcurrant, raspberry, licorice and smoke on the nose. At once broad and juicy, with flavors of red fruits, spices and mocha; very Morey. Finishes with nicely suave tannins.
Light and bright cherry. Not much nose but very attractive well-balanced transparent racy stuff. Pof! (JR)
