Tasting notes
With only 9,000 bottles made, the 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Salco represents an important selection of fruit from the estate's best growing sites. The wine is compact and hard and offers aromas that veer toward black fruit and exotic spice. On the inside, it shows nervous energy, bright acidity and firm tannins. This vintage needs a few extra years of bottle evolution before it completely unwinds and relaxes.

The 2013 Salco spent two years in oak (70% tonneaux/30% cask) and four years in bottle before being released, which is virtually unheard of these days. Powerful, deep and resonant, the 2013 offers up a compelling mélange of wild cherry, underbrush, incense and leather. There is an explosive energy to the 2013 that is compelling. Quite simply, the 2013 Salco is a tremendous wine by any measure.
